Telstra boosts Next G hardware speeds
2007-Sep-25, 11:30 am
IN BRIEF | Telstra has announced upgrades to client side devices to allow speeds of up to 7.2Mbit/s on its 3G network.
Telstra actually announced in February that it had "super-charged the speeds on its Next G network to 14.4Mbps", but it was never possible for customers to achieve these speeds using the available 3.6Mbps devices.
14.4Mbps is still not available, but Telstra claims that the upgraded client devices "deliver download speeds bursting up to 6 Mbps and, for the first time, also boast super fast upload speeds bursting up to 1.3 Mbps."
Existing users should be able to experience the higher speeds free of charge, as Telstra announced that "free 7.2 upgrades of existing Next G Turbo and Next G BigPond Wireless devices from Sierra Wireless, Maxon and ZTE" will be available.
